RELATIONAL OBJECT

This piece is part of my most recent body of work exploring interactions of materials. I am working to uncover and define the elements of objects lost under the formalist lens. Here the surface of the object is manipulated to challenge the expectations of materials. Glass is generally perceived as cold and unmoving, but against the context of the sharp wooden spines it is made to feel soft. The form and its manipulations explore the relationship of Kiki and Bouba, sharp and organic forms. I am curious about how these interactions of texture and form change the reading of the object.
